Connect, fish, chips and two ferries

Neil picked us up from our hotel, the very nice Rosebud golf and country club, in fairness we had only spent a small amount of time here as we crashed as soon as we got in and were up and out quickly in the morning, it was great though.

Talking of great what a great and super friendly place Connect Church peninsula was. This is Neil’s home chuch so we were introduced as Neil’s friends but I am more than happy with that honour. The church is starting to grow and you can see why, it’s getting a lot of stuff right. Lively praise and worship was followed by a great message from Pastor Susan. It’s was Mother’s Day in Australia so they were having a party after.

Unfortunately time and ferries wait for no man so we said our goodbyes and made our way to Sorrento (complete with dodgy bag of party goodies the lovely people from the chuch had packed for us)

The ferry from Sorrento was the first of the day as we then made our way to the main event the Spirit of Tasmania ferry from Geelong to Davenport’s in Tasmania. This was an overnight crossing on one of the most choppy straits in the world (indeed look it up on YouTube if you don’t believe me)

However in between ferries we managed to get some top notch fish and chips in, for those back in the UK no Cod or Haddock this was Flake in batter. That said it was extremely good fish and chips. I did tempt Deb with a Squid bomb (who’s for battered squid on a stick anyone?) before turning Neil’s nose with stories of chip shops selling  pickled eggs in the UK (anyone ever tried one).

After far too short a time it was time to say our goodbyes to Neil and set off on the Spirit of Tasmania. We had to board via a golf cart thingy but in fairness it was all good, Debs had a sleep while I scoped out the ship and bought us tickets for the cinema tonight (they got two cinemas on board) she had wanted to see the latest Bridget Jones film) there was about 5 of us in the theatre but it was a very good film (for a rom com) dealing very well with issues of bereavement and moving on. Soon it was time to tuck in for the night before a 6am disembarkment in the morning.
