These boots are made for walking
Up before dawn today and back to the same location that we saw the sunset last night only this time it was to see the sunrise. Instead of being offered wine this time we were greeted by hot Chai tea which was very welcome as it was cold, I mean last night was cold but this was especially cold, despite adding extra layers and not one but two blankets I was shivering, breakfast was served and we watched a show produced by three indigenous artists. It was good but again the highlight was the sunrise.
We were bussed back to the hotel and the next thing was to book our trip to walk around Uluru. We had bought a special attachment for Deb’s wheelchair, called a freewheel, to help Deb in the sand and apart from a couple of really tricky places we were able to get around quite well. One word of warning for anyone that does go is the flies, they are small, plentiful and very annoying especially during the day. We had a spray that didn’t seem to deter them in the slightest, some people wisely invested in nets to go over their faces but I think the flies just saw this as a challenge and one inevitably they would win.
The hop on bus driver was amazed by how much ground we had covered, not bad for an overweight old guy and a lady in a chair. However the day had taken its toll and it was an early night for us.(or me in particular) Back home I have slightly more energy than Deb but down here the roles are reversed and I can tell she is getting a little fed up with my lack of energy.
