Sydney | ferries, animals and Guitars
Another early morning as we made our way to Hobart airport for the short flight over to Sydney, before too long we were on our Virgin Australia plane all helped along by a really nice host called Emily, all the way from Essex as it turned out.
Before too long the iconic Sydney Opera House and Bridge can into view as we made our decent into Sydney. A quick taxi ride and checking in our bags and we were off to Circular Wharf to catch a ferry to Darling harbour for a visit to the city zoo. This is only a small part of Sydney zoo but offered Debs a first glimpse of Kangaroos, wallabies and Koala Bears. Like a lot of zoos these days the emphasis is on conservation so I don’t feel quite as bad visiting as I used to but it still sits a bit uneasy with me.
A quick ferry ride back, under the iconic bridge and we were back in our hotel and a quick change before rushing out to a fantastic concert in the Opera house itself. I will be honest I just wanted to book a concert so was a little disappointed when I saw on the night we wanted to go it was just a local guitarist by the name of Tommy Emmanuel playing but nevertheless I booked tickets , Debs also admitted being slightly underwhelmed when she heard who we were seeing. Well how wrong were we, Tommy Emmanuel was amazing, such a talented guitarist who somehow manages to get a guitar to sound like a full orchestra , from blues, blue grass to the Beatles Alan Oasis he was a revelation to us , although not to his many fans who turned up. One of the best concerts I have ever been too and all topped off with a rousing rendition of Waltzing Matilda much to the glee of his adoring fans.
We had originally planned to go with Neil and his daughter however because of personal issues They were able to join us in a Sydney so rather than try to Resell the tickets I had bought I asked Neil if he knew of anyone who we could gift them too, he managed to find a couple of his close friends called Syd and Anne who would like them so the deal was done and we met them after the concert. The have also kindly offered to take us to the Blue Mountains tomorrow which we are looking forward to. We got back to our hotel room very tired but happy after a wonderful first day in Sydney.
